Does Your English Cut the Mustard?

Apparently, mine doesn’t.

Because I am arrogant, I fully expected to ace this quiz. This is what I got instead:

Your English Skills:

Grammar: 100%
Spelling: 80%
Punctuation: 60%
Vocabulary: 40%

80% SPELLING?! What the HECK!

60% Punctuation? I guess I need to read “Eats, Shoots, and Leaves” again.

40% Vocabulary? I’m gonna chalk that one up to taking the test “on the fly”. Otherwise the embarrassment would be unbearable. Maybe I am losing brain cells from being a SAHM after all. I know I knew these words in college. I just know it.

So, take the quiz and report back. (unless you kick blogquiz butt, in which case, I don’t want to know. [That means you, Matt L.]) With a little luck, maybe I won’t feel as stupid as I do right now.

I hate vocabulary. Always have, always will.
I thought I would do better in spelling.

  2. I did not do well either:

    Punctuation: 100%
    Grammar: 80%
    Spelling: 40%
    Vocabulary: 20%

However, I don’t think it is fair to base my use and knowledge of vocabulary on three or four questions. :)

  3. Punctuation: 100%
    Grammar: 60%
    Spelling: 60%
    Vocabulary: 60%

I’m not happy with this at all. That’s one A and 3 F’s, if I remember my grading scale correctly. I never did like spelling and vocabulary. I was hoping to diagram sentences though.

  4. Vocabulary: 100%
    Grammar: 80%
    Spelling: 80%
    Punctuation: 60%

Like I’ve said in comments on other posts, I’m a firm believer in grammar and punctuation as art, not science. :)

Not surprised about the vocabulary score. Unlike you Cathy, I am horrible in this area! I prefer to stick to the basics when it comes to words.

  7. Punctuation: 100%
    Grammar: 80%
    Spelling: 40%
    Vocabulary: 20%

I thought I was a better speller than that! Not surprised by the vocab score though.

  8. This is either good news - you’re not as Nazi-ish as I thought…

OR this is horrible news - there exist someone worse than you and they are not in a lockdown unit.

    My scores:
    80, 80, 60, 40….

  9. Punctuation: 100%
    Vocabulary: 100%
    Spelling: 60%
    Grammar: 40%

Not bad. I’m pretty sure the grammar section is rigged, though. I’m not too surprised by the spelling score, really. Although, I guess I thought I’d do worse there.

  10. Punctuation: 100%
    Grammar: 60%
    Spelling: 40%
    Vocabulary: 40%

Well, spelling never was my thing, but I wish my vocab was more! I’m glad my punctuation was okay. Thanks to “Eats Shoots & Leaves!”

  11. […] If you see; what your think is bad grammar, or punctuation then you might be a bit of a typo-Nazi yourself, because, as Anna says, it’s more of an art than a science. […]

I guess it doesn’t do a lot of good to know grammar and spelling if your poor punctuation changes the meaning of what you are trying to communicate.
