The Best Gift

what's inside?
It is a little-known fact that one of the best gifts you can give a mother, particularly a mother of small children, is time alone.

MFL (Lindsey) understands this about mothers. And she must’ve been listening very closely when Paul has described how tired and sick and sick of being sick and tired I’ve been lately.

MFL also obviously loves me a whole lot more than I thought, or has a servant heart like no other. Or both.

These are the only 2 explanations I can come up for why she just pulled out of my driveway in her car loaded down with both girls, a beach bag full of swimming stuff, a pack ‘n’ play, our stroller, 3 teddy bears, a blanket and lovie for Elizabeth, a handful of Play-Doh, coloring books, crayons, 4 videos, and a diaper bag filled with a whole day’s worth of food, pacifiers, diapers and juice.

She’s single-handedly given me a whole day to myself.

A. Whole. Day.

To do what I please. (with the stern directive to “Get some rest!”)

So that’s exactly what I’m going to do: rest, read, and relax.

And enjoy this wonderful gift from a really great friend. (sigh of contentment.) I’m doing it already.

  1. Wow! She is so sweet. She’s going to make a fabulous aunt in a couple weeks…

  2. Wow - what a gift and I agree, for mothers, time alone is a much sought after gift. Enjoy your wonderful day (but it looks like you already are!)

  3. Enjoy your rest…and resist the urge to start cleaning your house! (That’s MY stern directive for the day)

  4. I agree with Bonnie. . .NO CLEANING!!

  5. I had lunch with Lindsey and your adorable little girls today. One of the first things I said was, “you know you’re getting blogged. I’m going to get home and read about ‘MFL’ (My Friend Lindsey)” and guess what? I was right.

    So, 3 things:

    1) Your girls are so sweet and adorable. and polite. Andrea caughed and Jane said “God bless you.”

    2) I hope you feel better.

    3) Lindsey is an incredible servant. I have much to learn from her.

  6. Thanks, Karin for the sweet compliments about the girls. Those kinds of comments are like crack-cocaine for a mother. And yes, Lindsey is amazing.
To Bonnie and Beverly-I heeded the collective voice and rested. No cleaning. No laundry. Sleep. Oh, and I went to the grocery store (ALONE!), but that wasn’t work…it was a treat!
And Dana- I just thought about you today! So glad to hear from you again!
