The Culprit

darn sleep-stealerI finally figured out what is keeping me up until midnight lo these many nights.

A Coke at 8pm.

Here’s the equation:

12 oz. can of Coca-Cola classic + loss of intelligence and reason=1 wide-awake 35-year-SAHM

And all this time I thought it was the naps! (wink)

  1. No way! Keep up the naps, cut out the Coke! I had a similar experience the other night. I made chocolate chip cookies for the girls to take to youth group. It was a new recipe with espresso powder in the dough. I ate a couple cookies before I let them out of the house. At midnight, I couldn’t figure out why I was still wide awake (on a Sunday without having a nap that day, no less). It finally dawned on me that the cookies were the culprit.
I’ve also found that daily doses of ibuprofen mixed with daily doses of caffeine at work (I rarely drank pop before I started working, then it became a daily habit), will highly increase my incidence of heartburn.

  2. I had the same problem. But I refused ot cut out my sodas at night, so I just switched to caffeine-free coke. I think it’s a pretty good compromise. I get my pop, but can still sleep at night.

  3. Caffeine is my sworn enemy. It never seemed to affect me before I got pregnant, but since I cut it out of my diet during my pregnancy (big mistake), my body just couldn\’t handle it afterward. I\’ve actually been weaning myself back ON it lately, with good results. I\’m just so sick of the lack of non-caffeinated options!

  4. I didn’t think I was sensitive to it, but now have realized that any caffeine after 4pm will keep me up. So that would be a yes on sensitive. And Sudafed will too. An expresso and 2 Sudafeds would keep me up for DAYS.

Cathy, call my cell. We’re headed to FL for Thanksgiving and I don’t have your cell #!
