Advice
Do not EVER, I mean, NO NEVER, put off a pit-stop that involves a foul smell emanating from the diaper region of your 19-month-old sitting quietly in her car seat.
OTHERWISE, you might find yourself at a Chevron station between Tallahassee and Lake City that has no paper towels, hand sanitizer, baby wipes OR SOAP by which to wash and/or wipe off the extremely smelly, very runny poop that is all over the hands, feet, face (no, I am not exaggerating), legs, bottom, and tummy of said 19-month-old, as well as a significant portion of the aforementioned carseat.
You’re welcome.
And for the record…
YES, we travel with lots of baby wipes.
YES, we ran out of them just trying to do the diaper change.
NO, Downy fabric softener doesn’t really clean the carseat, although it does provide a strong, fresh flower [read: nauseating] scent in the car.
NO, I didn’t swear or cuss anyone out in either our car or the gas station, although the woman behind me in the line for the potty chewed the gas station attendant a new one for the lack of paper towels and soap in the lavatory. (Which made me feel strangely vindicated.)
(Okay, I just re-read the next to last sentence and am now laughing at the concept of “chewing someone a new one.” Hysterical. Carry on.)

Um…yeah, that’s disgusting. =)
OOOH Been there. I SO feel for you.
Coming home from a wedding in Panama City… we didn’t have the luxury of a gas station… it was so bad- we did something I NEVER EVER do- we left the diaper on the side of the road. Closest gas station we tossed the clothes and washed up. The rest of the ride home was just nasty. Got home and hosed the car seat.
On the up-side, it’s never happened again.
Our biggest roadtrip issue now is car sickness. Which unfortunately happens often with two of the four. I keep plastic grocery bags and old towels stashed in the van so I can throw it at the child who suddenly pipes up with, “Mommy my tummy…”
Hope you and the girls are up to date on your giardia meds-ha!
This is kind of the perfect storm of bad diaper scenarios………
