Fast Car Driving

I’ve always wanted to drive a 5-speed sports car.
Always.
Which is not a surprise, really, because by nature I’m fairly aggressive.
So last night, when I drove my father’s red 2002 Mazda Miata, I had my fast-car-driving desire fulfilled.
Well, kind of.
In the process of tooling around Birmingham in my dad’s sweet ride, I learned 3 valuable lessons. […]

Long Road Trips Made Better

Okay, I swore I would never be the kind of parent that bought TV’s and DVD players (and the like) to distract my children so that I wouldn’t have to “deal with them.”
I was never, EVER, going to be a mother who was relieved that her children were “good TV watchers.”
And you could take it […]

This Christmas Eve

Paul posted his thoughts here…I thought I’d do the same.
We decided we’d watch The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe movie tonight, and mutually concluded that the best place to start would be where Santa returns to Narnia.
It wasn’t long before I was completely enthralled, though I’ve seen it many times before.
Three scenes struck me […]

And Now for the News…

After a mere 2 weeks (and 2 days) and a surprising 10 showings, we have a signed a contract to sell our house to a lovely gentleman who is relocating to Orlando for a job!
Whew! And a big YAY for God!
Why YAY God, you ask?
Because in this housing market, in this neighborhood, at this […]

Fantastic Music Machine

My friend Ruthie sent this awhile back. When I finally got around to watching, I was blown away!
Watch it first, then read on!

According to several YouTube subscribers, here’s a description of the contraption:
This incredible machine was built as a collaborative effort between the Robert M. Trammell Music Conservatory and the Sharon Wick School of Engineering […]

Have a Good Day

Apparently Mars was having a good day on 11.11.04.
That was the day that the Mars Global Surveyor Orbiter took this picture of what looks like a smiley face. The Orbiter has been going around Mars since September 1997.
Neat, huh?!

Waiter, Could I Have…

Last week in church, the pastor taught Luke 2: 25-32.
It is the passage about Simeon, who had a revelation from God that he would not die until he saw the Messiah, the “Lord’s Christ.”
I’ve read this passage of Scripture many times, and have probably heard sermons preached about it as well. This time, though, was […]

She DOES Listen!

I often wonder if Jane hears me at all.
The evidence (her actions) points to the contrary much of the time. (e.g. “Don’t take toys away from Elizabeth” [snatch]; “Don’t push Elizabeth” [shove]; “Watch where you’re going” [looking off into space]; etc.)
Occasionally, I get confirmation that at least some of the things I say penetrate her […]

Understanding Sovereignty

A very dear, very new friend recently gave me a profound thought that I just can’t shake.
Probably because it hits very, very close to home.
In describing her husband, she said (and I quote) “[He] needed for God to show him once and for all that trusting God means trusting God; not using God as a […]

Two-Man Circus

Here at Cirque du Martin, there are only two of us adult performers, so we have a lot of jobs.
Today, with a Christmas party looming and subsequent food and presents to be made, bought, wrapped and transported, and two little circus animals to entertain, feed, clothe and in general, care for completely, the circus is […]
