Ups and Downs
So much for “normal.”
Yesterday we found out that the buyer for our house has backed out.
On the day of closing.
Yes, I know. This is now the second time we’ve sold our house, and the second time the buyer has backed out the very day it should have been sold for good.
[Sigh.]
What are the chances, right?
So while we are on the emotional roller coaster full of ups and downs, God (level-headed as always) is working all this stuff out for us, and testing our faith in the process.
Truthfully, it stinks. At least from our vantage point.
And maintaining the belief that “God is good” is very difficult right now.
The funny thing is this, though: I love roller coasters.
Poised at the peak, looking down at where I’m about to go, I am always scared to death, white-knuckling the railing and wondering, “What the heck was I thinking? WHY ON EARTH did I willingly sign on for THIS?!”
But 3.7 seconds later, after emerging from the stomach-dropping fall, I’m riding high and loving every minute of it screaming, “WOOOOO-HOOOOO!” at the top of my lungs.
Invariably, at the end of the ride, I step out of the cart and say enthusiastically, “Let’s do it AGAIN!”
Roller coasters are a lot of things to a lot of different people. They’re thrilling, scary and fun. They can be made of metal or wood. You can find them all over the world.
But there’s at least one thing that every roller coaster in the world has in common. At least the “good” ones:
They’re never, ever boring.
Here’s to having a “roller coaster Life”, complete with all its ups and downs. (and to the nauseating feeling as you’re plunging down the big drop!) (grin.)

What a great analogy. And to me the totally opposite of roller coasters are simulator rides.
I detest them. They leave me feeling nauseous and like I’ve just finished wrestling with Hulk Hogan.
I’d much rather live a roller coaster life than a simulated one anytime.
So sorry to hear that!!! The tilling continues, and His grace will be there all the more. Praying….
Roller coasters are a whole lot more fun than the boring old merry-go-round! With the merry-go-round, you keep seeing and doing the same things over, and over, and over. Boring. But the roller coasters of life keep us enthralled.
So sorry about the house. That sucks big rocks.
Oh Cathy! I’m so sorry!
Great analogy, though.
Awww, man! That sucks! I’m so sorry.
But yes, very good analogy.
Hey- just wanted to give you my sympathies from the other end of that home buying spectrum! I close on a house in mmm an hour. In the last three hours I found out I have to pay an extra$600 because they had not treated for termites- and they were sighted around the house. lovely. AND They will not be paying any closing costs (I already paid closing on one house, and we thought they would be paying some of closing costs… I didn’t think they were, but for some reason my relator thought they were paying $1500 of it.) So, instead of $22,000 I’ll be out $24,012.68. I’m just so ready to be out of my Mom’s house I’m willing to do it just to get it done! Did I mention I haven’t slept in two days because of this?!?!?
Yeh, roller coasters make me want to hurl. I’m ready for this ride to slow down now!
Yuck! I love the roller coaster comparison though…so very true.
