A Brief Exchange

After a hard-fought and hard-won battle over lunch today in which one child ate only grapes and the other went to bed crying and probably still pretty hungry, I verbalized this observation:

(Me, to Paul)
“I don’t think our children understand how fully committed I am to doing what is right for them.”

(God, to me)
“I was thinking the exact same thing about you.”

Ouch.

  1. I know. The other day my kids were whining and complaining about eating lunch at Panera. And the crazy thing is, it was a cinnamon crunch bagel! I was thinking, “It’s not like I am making them eat cauliflower, for crying out loud! It’s a stinkin cinnamon bagel!”
Which in your parallelism, I do think God is making me eat cauliflower sometimes, when it probably really is a cinnamon bagel!!!

  2. Hmmm. . .

  3. This happens to me all the time. Having a child has done the most to show me how much God loves me, and at the same time how unruly I am!

  4. Gulp (inward glancing happening - conviction noted!)
