My Easter Weekend…with Walgreens
I am just about to walk out the door to go to work.
The 2-10pm shift. At the store that draws problems and crazy people like a light attracts bugs.
And tomorrow (Easter Sunday), I work 8am-4pm.
It’s the first time in 7 years that I will have to work on Easter Sunday.
(Sigh.)
It’s made me think about Easter more than I normally do.
Here are some of my random thoughts:
Jesus worked on Easter weekend. He worked so hard that he died a real death on Earth, and then he worked some more in ways that I can only assume could be labeled, “torturous.” Three days of Hell. Literally.
I wonder what kind of joy and relief it was to arise from the dead. And to walk out into the world knowing that it would only be a very short time before he got to go home—real Home, not just the earthly subsitute—and be reunited with God Himself. His Father. I think I’d be able to walk through walls, too.
Why don’t we celebrate a “Good Monday” instead of “Good Friday”? It would make much more sense.
My biggest thought, though, has been just this simple realization: what would it be like if everyone believed in the Truth of Christ’s Resurrection? At the very least no one would have to work on Easter Sunday. It would eclipse Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Year’s Eve, combined.
It’s a broken world, friends. Thank God for Jesus Christ who died to save us from ourselves. Praise be to God!
Happy Easter!

Amen, and Happy Easter to you too, even though you have to work.
I was wondering if you’d have to work tomorrow - I’m so sorry. Good thoughts on Jesus’ relief to rise from the dead.
Love you, friend.
In Australia Easter Monday is a holiday. I always thought the USA should also celebrate it as well.
Sorry you had to work today.
Happy Easter! Good thoughts. At least the work you do helps bring healing and relief to others. What a meaningful job you have!
Happy Easter Monday! I think of you often and love reading your thoughts from time to time (and you know that those times are widely spaced. Blogger, I am not.). This Easter, I have spent time considering the goodness of God. He loves me, he forgives me. We sang on Sunday, “No guilt in life, no fear in .” I reflected on that line a very long time. It’s comforting, freeing. I am lost in thought again……… I’ll come back and visit. I loved your stories about the Salvation Army!
OK, somehow the quote got chopped. This is why I don’t blog!!!! Agh!!! Anyway, it’s supposed to be “No guilt in life, no fear in .”
Poor Becky. I’m sure she’s trying to say, “No guilt in life, not fear in DEATH.” Do you have a filter that takes out the word “death?” Is this comment going to be edited, too?
Anyway, I agree, Cathy, that we should celebrate Easter even more than Christmas, New Years, Thanksgiving, etc. Easter is THE celebration.
