My Easter Weekend…with Walgreens

I am just about to walk out the door to go to work.
The 2-10pm shift. At the store that draws problems and crazy people like a light attracts bugs.
And tomorrow (Easter Sunday), I work 8am-4pm.
It’s the first time in 7 years that I will have to work on Easter Sunday.
(Sigh.)
It’s made me think about Easter […]

A Brief Exchange

After a hard-fought and hard-won battle over lunch today in which one child ate only grapes and the other went to bed crying and probably still pretty hungry, I verbalized this observation:
(Me, to Paul)
“I don’t think our children understand how fully committed I am to doing what is right for them.”
(God, to me)
“I was thinking […]

The Note

I found this note in my lunchbox yesterday.
I have never felt so appreciated in my life. It makes me want to cry.
And, because of that wonderful, loving note of gratitude from Paul, I felt like my work that day was an honor.
A privilege that I’d been given: a chance to help the family I love.  […]

Surrounded by Grace

I’ve been meaning to blog about this for a couple of weeks now…but, alas, have not made the time. Having just arrived home from work, tired, jittery and a little bit cranky, it seems that now is the time.
We’ve been going to church at Oak Mountain Presbyterian Church (PCA) until we “land” somewhere permanently.
Every […]

Ups and Downs

So much for “normal.”
Yesterday we found out that the buyer for our house has backed out.

On the day of closing.
Yes, I know. This is now the second time we’ve sold our house, and the second time the buyer has backed out the very day it should have been sold for good.
[Sigh.]
What are the chances, right?
So […]

A New Look

The Catbird Seat is currently undergoing some new aesthetic changes, per its developer’s decision (Paul). He felt it was high time to change.
I’m inclined to agree.
It’s still a work in progress, but I’d love to get your feedback.
So far, my only real complaint is the “Search” bar in the middle of my header. I […]

One Down and One to Go

Pending a successful drug test result (no problem!), I am soon to be a Walgreens employee…hooray!
Granted, I still have to get 5 hours of continuing education (and pay several hundred dollars!) to activate my AL pharmacist’s license.
Though 5 hours may sound like a lot, it is actually not bad considering the 15 total that […]

Alive and Active in Me

In Beth Moore’s Believing God Bible study, the last of the 5 tenets of a pledge we recited (I know, it sounds ridiculous, but it was truly life-changing!) was this simple and profound statement:
The Word of God is alive and active in me.
When she taught the Scripture and support for this statement, she referenced the […]

Being Human First

As I have continued to listen and process the lyrics of singer/songwriter Eric Peters (see this post for background info), I have found myself increasingly drawn to a song entitled, “Save Something For Grace.”
Aside: I wish I new how to work our new-to-us $58 iMac, because it is here that I’d like to drop […]

Finally and Finality

We’re here.
After many long hours of travel on I-75 through Ocala, Gainesville, Valdosta, Tifton, Macon and finally Atlanta, then onto I-20 for another 3 hours due to road construction, Elizabeth, Jane and I made it to Birmingham tired but relatively happy.
Paul and best friend, Johnny, (and some help from my dad) made quick work unpacking […]
