Week #3

Child’s chair, “Kinderzeat”
Designer: Peter Opsvik for Stokke
Year: 1972
Description: European beech wood
Estimated cost: ~$200
Why I picked this chair: First, I want one for each of our kids! Second, I think it’s just such a smart design. Stokke really understands what it is to have a child try to eat at an adult-sized table. The seat adjusts up and down to fit the height of the child, as does the footrest. Here’s an excerpt from the company brochure:
In booster seats, highchairs and youth seats, children’s legs dangle – restricting circulation. Sitting for even a few minutes can cause feet to tingle or fall asleep. Children instinctively squirm and reposition themselves. Stokke KinderZeat is fully adjustable to grow with your child. Both seat and footrest can comfortably accommodate users up to 300 pounds. Children can relax and feel fully supported through childhood and into the teen years.
It holds up to 300 pounds! That’s just awesome. Thirdly, well, it just looks better than any high chair or kids chair I’ve ever seen. It would probably look really nice at my dining room table. It’s easy to clean. It has that fantastic contemporary look that I love. (Clean lines, you know.) It’s available in many colors and natural wood finishes. I could go on and on…
