Chair with Holes
Chair, “Chair with Holes”
Designer: Gijs Bakker
Year: 1990
Description: maple wood
Estimated cost: $7000

Why I chose this chair: It’s different. It’s wood, but it doesn’t look like a chair that’s made of wood. It has holes in it, for no apparent reason other than it makes it look cool. It is original. And, according to various sources, it’s “light but steady”…due to the holes.

Mostly, though, a closer look at it reveals not uniform holes, but a systematic and interesting pattern of varying sizes of holes. If you look really closely, you’ll see that the pattern is one that creates bilateral symmetry. And that kind of order just makes me happy.

According to a couple of websites, the manufacturer (Droog) is making this particular chair a limited edition by only producing 50 pieces…so hurry up and order yours now!
